Simple Chou and chick pea soup fresh basil

Simple Cabbage and Chickpea Soup with Fresh Basil

The day after his 14th birthday, my e daughter leaned against the door of my Office and said, "Let's go on a diet together."

I was stunned by murmur: "it is unnecessary to go on a diet." You are a size 0. If you get very small, you'll have ceased to exist. »

"I know." I do not want to lose any weight. But it would be fun to do together. »

I knew where it came from. Earlier that day, she had lunch with a friend and "awesome mom his friend" who had a low carbohydrate diet as a whole.  It looked like his vegetarian friend all cheeses and vegetables from his sandwich on a piece of bread and eaten it open. She told me to lunch in detail, and I could say that there was something on the relationship between the mother and daughter that appeals to it, it is something that she wanted to share with me. And although the idea of his departure this way all power at his age I fear of death, I have said, "How about a cabbage soup diet."  I never dreamed she would say yes, but it did.

Note that I said "a" cabbage soup diet and not "the" cabbage soup diet, regardless of who is. Our plan was simply to eat soup cabbage once per day for a week and do not limit in any way. I thought that this would be a way to get more vegetables in her diet food "sandwich for lunch." It had been years since she had allowed me packaged soup in his lunch box, but now she asked me even offering to eat for breakfast.  More important still, it give me a chance to show that Canada "diet" a person is not a loss of weight, but healthy eating. If I had seen any sign that it is actually not to lose weight, signs of body image issues, would have backed off the coast of the idea and he sat down to a long discussion. But she simply wanted to enter the kitchen to make our soup together.

Immediately, I have decided that our cabbage soup would contain beans for protein, tomato lycopene and a bit of extra fat, as pine nuts. E sautéed onions and other vegetables while I made the cut, and together, we decided that some of our garden Basil would be best for our "pesto soup", as e seasoning called it.

Like any other e had a helping hand in manufacturing, she enjoyed this soup.  She ate two bowls of it for lunch Sunday, the first day of our "system" and took to school for lunch Monday, with a few whole grain crackers, a granola bar and an apple-a nutritious meal for a teenager.

I still don't know that I did the right thing in allowing a 14 years old to go on a diet, even if it is without restrictions. But I figure in our society conscious of their body, of his friends more will talk about a diet regime, and so I could show her at the outset that it is adding vegetables and healthy fruit, pills or meal of drinking boxes dangerous step.

Update: We had this soup for lunch Sunday and Monday and Tuesday I did a potato-cabbage soup that was, in terms of E, an epic failure. We both ate it anyway, but no there was no way we were choking it down again Wednesday, therefore nous we went services flexibility. I am another pot of this soup to cabbage today, since it was such a success, and we will have some for a snack this afternoon.

Black Bean-pineapple soup Stew Chile

Black Bean-Pineapple Soup Stew Chili

Sometimes ideas come just for me. I call it inspired, but the people of the generation of my parents called it being "hit in the head". I was sitting here at my Office one day thinking how much I love salsa with pineapple in it (because it's the kind of deep as thought), when it seemed to me that what is good in salsa should be good in the soup. Black bean soup. So I tried it.  And you know what? I was right.

If you are unwilling to have fruit in your soup, let me tell you that there was a time when I couldn't imagine something sweet never touch my savory. But that was before I opened my Palace to the sensations of pineapple mixing with peanuts and kale or tofu grilled cumin filled with papaya salsa. Now, I'm a believer. But even if you absolutely know that you do not like fruits in your main dish, give it a test. Pineapple prepared such a subtly sweet flavor that my family did not even notice it until what I pointed out. But at this time, they both finished two bowls, same girl E, who do not like black beans.

Add the garlic, stir briefly, and then add the tomatoes, beans, broth and seasonings (but not squash or pineapple). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. While the beans are cooking, crop squash and cut in small cubes. Add the pineapple and squash, increase a little heat and cover. Simmer until the squash is just tender. Low fat Easter recipes

My younger daughter's birthday sometimes just before Easter, and sometimes just after. Last year it coincided with Easter Sunday. You find this confusing. I tried to explain that, in contrast to Christmas, which is always December 25th, the date of Easter from year to year-something to do with a Paschal full moonvaries. As long as the Easter Bunny to show in mind, I do not believe except for time, my daughter will provide too much.

Easter Sunday falls on 24 April of this year. Here is a selection of Easter low fat cuisine do you have some time a family-friendly low-fat Easter Brunch, prepare lunch or dinner.

Mushroom risotto

A good way, less fat in the course of a week is eating one or two meat-based dishes for vegetable-based switch. One such dish could risotto, as long as you are not too heavy handed with cheese or you do not with cheese as a whole. Risotto is simple enough to make, it requires only a little time and attention. Nevertheless can risotto on the table in 30 minutes or so. One of my favorite risotto meals is a simple Mushroom risotto. Although specifying in the recipe, I, Cremini, and shiitake mushrooms you feel free use mushrooms, if that's what you have just to the hand.

Banana pancakes

On the weekend I differ my daily breakfast oatmeal, to enjoy some pancakes. My particular favourite is Banana Pancakes, which are naturally sweet, especially if you use very ripe bananas. No butter or cream is necessary. Simply top with sliced bananas and some warm maple syrup.

Salad of white bean with Za'atar

White Bean Salad with Za'atar
Chick pea salads are very popular in my home. My e daughter loves so much that she often helps me throw together, and we never use exactly the same form twice. This weekend, I decided to really make things happen and, instead of chick peas, make a salad of beans, great northern beans. I had to wait until that e was out of the House, because it is not a fan of white beans, and true to form, she refused taste salad. OH well, more than me-and for husband D, which actually preferred chickpea salad.

This salad gets its distinctive flavour of Za'atar, a mixture of popular spices in the Middle East. The exact formula varies from one country to another, but generally include thyme, sumac, and sesame seeds, which are spices used here. If you do not find Za'atar (or zatar or zahatar) locally, you can order online from Penzey's spices, but it is very easy to do at home. Look for poison (which is also essential for watering on hummus) online or in grocery stores in the Middle East.

Place the rest of the ingredients, including reserved beans and the juice of half a lemon in a food processor and blend until smooth. Add this salad dressing in the bowl and stir well to coat. Refrigerate until this that well chilled, at least an hour, but better the next day. Check seasoning and add more salt, lemon juice and Zaatar to taste. Serve with additional parsley or Zaatar.Vous can use on a cut of any crunch providing vegetables or fruit instead of the rave.
